What AdMob earnings and estimated earnings really mean

by FixoLab

The headline amount in an AdMob report is useful, but it is not a live bank balance. AdMob calls it estimated earnings because the value can be adjusted before it becomes part of the finalized payment process. AdMate displays the provider data so you can monitor performance; it does not turn an estimate into a final amount.

The best way to understand a change is to read earnings together with volume and rate metrics.

Estimated earnings

Estimated earnings represent the advertising revenue estimated for the selected report scope. The scope includes the publisher account, date range and any app, ad-unit, country or format filters.

The value can change after the initial report. Google may apply later processing and adjustments, including invalid-activity handling. That is why yesterday’s figure can move and why a current-month total should not be matched directly to a bank deposit.

In AdMate, always keep the label “estimated” when you export, discuss or screenshot this metric. Removing the label creates false precision.

The metrics that explain the headline

Impressions

An impression records an ad exposure according to the provider’s reporting rules. More impressions create more opportunities to earn, but an impression does not have a fixed value.

Ad requests

Requests show how often the app asked for an ad. A request is not the same as a matched request or an impression. A large gap between requests and impressions can point to fill, implementation or user-flow questions.

Match rate

Match rate describes the relationship between requests and requests for which an ad was returned, using Google’s definition for that report. It helps separate low demand or eligibility from problems later in the display path.

Clicks

Clicks are a user-interaction metric, not an instruction to optimize by encouraging interaction. Never place or describe ads in a way that produces accidental or incentivized clicks outside the provider policies.

eCPM

eCPM normalizes estimated earnings per thousand impressions. Conceptually:

eCPM = estimated earnings ÷ impressions × 1,000

It is a rate, not an additional amount of revenue. Do not add eCPM to earnings. A rising eCPM can coincide with falling total earnings when impression volume falls enough.

Four common patterns

Pattern Likely next question
Impressions down, eCPM stable Did traffic, consent, app usage or ad placement exposure change?
Impressions stable, eCPM down Did geography, format, demand or seasonality change?
Requests stable, impressions down Did match rate or the path from match to display change?
Earnings rise with both volume and eCPM Which app, format or country contributed most?

These patterns guide investigation; they do not prove a cause. Check the app and official AdMob reports before changing an implementation.

Compare periods correctly in AdMate

  1. Select the same publisher account.
  2. Use complete periods with equal duration.
  3. Match the same app and ad-unit filters.
  4. Confirm the display currency.
  5. Compare earnings, impressions and eCPM together.
  6. Open the application or ad-unit breakdown that explains the portfolio total.
  7. Recheck the official AdMob dashboard if the difference is material.

Avoid comparing an incomplete “today” with a complete previous day. Traffic and demand vary by hour, and time-zone boundaries can make the comparison worse.

From estimate to payment

Advertising moves through several stages:

  1. the app requests and displays eligible ads;
  2. AdMob reports performance and estimated earnings;
  3. the provider processes and finalizes eligible revenue;
  4. the associated AdSense payment account applies threshold and payment status;
  5. an issued payment reaches the chosen payment method.

Each stage can have a different date and value. Read how to track AdSense payments in AdMate for the payment side.

When to investigate

Investigate when a closed comparable period shows a material unexplained change, an entire app or ad unit disappears, authorization fails or the official provider report differs from the refreshed AdMate view.

Do not diagnose from a single hour, a widget snapshot or a percentage without its denominator. Record account, dates, filters and metric name before contacting support, and redact identifiers.

Frequently asked questions

Are AdMob earnings final?

The live report shows estimated earnings. Use the provider’s finalized payment records for the final amount.

Is eCPM the amount earned per ad?

No. It is a normalized rate per thousand impressions, not a fixed value for each impression.

Why can earnings fall when impressions rise?

The impression mix or eCPM may have changed. Compare country, format, app and ad-unit breakdowns.

Does AdMate recalculate Google’s estimate?

AdMate presents provider metrics and useful views; Google remains the authority for AdMob definitions and finalization.
